The name Shangri La Ti Da came about when friends visited the home of Keith Greenlee and Richard Davis.

As you entered their courtyard and walked through the patio you entered the backyard that looked like Shangri La, the mythical garden from the 1933 novel "Lost Horizon" by James Hilton.

The movie of the same name came out in 1937. As a joke, Richard Davis called it La Ti Da, Shangri La Ti Da.
